Love Thy Neighbor

Yesterday, I tweeted about a heat-stroke induced thought I had regarding small businesses partnering up with their immediate neighbors.  As I waited outside for my car to be washed i n the ridiculous humidity of an East Coast August, I surveyed the surrounding area and saw nothing but opportunity.  Small business owners live and die with their personal and professional networks (word of mouth, anyone?!).

But let’s start simple here.  Two buildings over from the Car Wash is an extremely popular ice cream shop.  As sweat dripped from my brow and I found myself entering a summery stupor, I realized just how complete a nice, cool, refreshing scoop of ice cream would have made me feel.  If the ice cream shop had set up a sampling booth at the car wash or if I received a “free upgrade to a large cone” offer with my regular wash receipt, I could have experienced that moment of nirvana care of two local businesses.

Take a walk outside and look around.  Have you explored promotional opportunities with your neighbors?
