Sales 101 – frame every call-to-action in terms relating to customer benefits / problem solutions. I see the “Friend / Like Us” directive in a lot of places nowadays and, while I applaud the initial stages of marrying the offline and online experiences (this specific example was found on a menu), we can’t forget the basics. This prompt would have been much more enticing and effective if it had included a few benefits I’d receive from being a Facebook friend with this restaurant (e.g. special weekly coupons, chances to win daily contests, sneak peaks into new menu items).
