A friend and I headed over to McCarren Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn today to check out RedBull Creation, an event celebrating innovation and creation. Unlike most RedBull proprietary events, this one had nothing to do with sports or athletic competitions. It was a pretty impressive seen, as most RedBull activities are. Large footprint, clear branding, functional set-up, high energy environment. Add in some wacky exhibits and it was a pretty good overall experience. Given the space, I would have liked to see more interactive elements. The 16 competing innovation teams were all represented well and available for direct communication with the crowd and the stages were set-up for well with video boards for team presentations. Aside from that, there were three activities of note: an impressive and crowd-drawing iPad-controlled water balloon launcher, a completely unused bull riding competition and a community built do-it-yourself interactive art piece. To keep people’s attention in between the live stage elements, additional hands-on creation workshops and activities could have been enlisted. Still, a very unique event.
