Those of us in the word of mouth game hear it all the time – “But how do I get people talking about my product when it’s a boring commodity? There’s nothing inherently interesting about it!“. It’s a common misconception that has been disproved many times. The latest example comes to us care of a local ACE Hardware store in Kansas. I wouldn’t consider hardware as exciting, talkable type stuff. You go get some nails, your house keys copied, maybe a new philips head. It’s typically an in-and-out type procedure. But Westlake ACE, saw an opportunity with Halloween just around the corner to create something funny, different and buzz worthy. Check out the store’s Zombie Preparedness Center – a place for both humans and zombies, full of useful tips and strategies for defending yourself against the undead or covering up that unpleasant “decaying body” smell.
I love everything about this. It’s inexpensive, unexpected (dare I say, disruptive!), humorous and it capitalizes on an existing holiday that most people are thinking about anyway.
