R.O.C. – Return On Conversation

As I spent an exhilarating Friday evening pouring over my website and blog performance metrics, significant and seemingly random spikes in traffic jumped off the page. After digging a little deeper into those days and times, it turns out this whole “conversation” thing we marketers have been blabbering about for months now really is effective!

Specific to this blog, the highest traffic days and most-viewed posts all coincided with comments I’ve made on other blogs. It’s a simple and well-known, yet alarmingly powerful concept – when you actually converse with other people about relevant topics, connections are made. Note that this is certainly not a recommendation to spam blogs with the sole intent of self-promotion. Your messaging still needs to be topical and valuable to the interactions. Better yet, present a disruptive notion to inject alternative thinking into such conversations and watch the back-and-forth fly.
